01

The Opportunity

Growing businesses rarely experience banking as one coherent product. Cash is distributed across accounts, upcoming obligations live in separate tools, and approvals happen through a mixture of banking portals, spreadsheets, email, and chat.

The opportunity was to design a financial decision workspace that helps a business understand what it has, what is changing, what needs approval, and what deserves investigation.

Bring the financial picture together without blurring consent, authority, or accountability.

The concept is grounded in the UAE's emerging Open Finance environment, where secure data sharing and service initiation can create more connected financial experiences. The regulatory context informed the product constraints; it does not imply bank affiliation or regulatory approval.

Design question: How might a growing business act on one reliable cash position while every connected bank, user permission, approval, and alert remains transparent?

People & Responsibilities

The design separates access from authority. Each role sees the same financial reality, but can only take actions appropriate to their responsibility.

◎
Business Owner
Needs a confident view of runway, obligations, exceptions, and decisions requiring executive approval.
▦
Finance Manager
Connects accounts, creates payments, manages invoices, explains variances, and prepares evidence for approvers.
✓
Approver
Reviews high-value or unusual payments with policy context, risk evidence, and a traceable approval history.
03

Product Principles

See
One Cash Position
Aggregate balances and obligations while preserving the source bank and freshness of every figure.
Know
Explain the Forecast
Show what changed the projection and let users inspect the invoices, payroll, or payments behind it.
Act
Authority Before Speed
Make approval policy, beneficiary evidence, and sign-off history visible before money moves.

AI Advises, People Decide
Alerts explain the signal, confidence, and evidence; the user retains every financial decision.

Consent Before Connection · Access scope, optional payment permission, duration, and revocation remain understandable
Balsamiq-style maker-checker payment approval wireframe with policy, risk evidence, and approval trail
Maker-Checker Approval · Policy, risk context, supporting evidence, and sign-off history sit beside the decision
Balsamiq-style explainable AI banking alert comparing two possible duplicate payments and suggesting next steps
Explainable Risk Review · AI surfaces the pattern and evidence; the finance team chooses whether to dismiss, investigate, or hold

Concept Outcome & Next Validation

This study produced a coherent product model and four testable wireflows. It demonstrates how a banking experience can become more connected and intelligent without hiding permissions, financial authority, or the evidence behind a recommendation.

01
Cash Comprehension
Can an owner explain available cash, forecast change, and upcoming obligations without opening another tool?
02
Approval Confidence
Can an approver identify policy, evidence, risk, and prior sign-offs before deciding?
03
Consent Recall
Can a finance manager correctly state what data and actions were authorised after connecting a bank?
No adoption, revenue, or usability metrics are claimed: this is a concept ready for research and prototype validation.
